All 14 WELCOME HOTELS can look at the results for the first half of 2008 with a feeling of satisfaction. Figures for the first half of 2008 show turnover rising to 22.6 million Euros representing growth of 5.4 million Euros. Group Managing Directors Mario Pick and Carsten Kritz report positive trading for the first half of 2008 with the highlight being the addition of the groups’ two state-of-the-art hotels in Paderborn und Darmstadt both of which complement the group portfolio to perfection. Despite the average occupancy rate being reduced by the two new hotels the existing hotels in the group were able to increase overall occupancy from 58.9% to 61.5% (an increase of 50,000 bed-nights). The average room rate increased from 63 Euro to 69 Euro in the first half of the year. WELCOME HOTELS has set itself the target of reaching a turnover of 47 million Euros by the end of the year. This steady upward trend is due in no small part to an increase in marketing.
On an operational level the WELCOME group continues to consistently follow its path of focusing on optimizing operational costs. In particular rising energy costs are forcing even the hotel industry to adopt cost saving measures. WELCOME HOTELS has responded to these changes by working together with "Progros“, a purchasing cooperative, and by analyzing individual processes in each hotel. In addition to energy-saving aspects the introduction of a “Uniform System of Accounts“ is furthering the optimization of the company. Targeted marketing measures and the group’s well qualified staff members who undergo regular professional development have resulted in a level of guest satisfaction that is absolutely in keeping with the company’s "you are welcome“ philosophy. Green accreditation and regular Mystery Checks both lead to an increase in quality expectations, a challenge WELCOME group embraces with every new day.
Locations and product lines
WELCOME HOTELS are to be found not only in cities such as Essen and Bamberg, but also in smaller towns such as Bamberg, Lippstadt, Bad Arolsen, Paderborn and Wesel. The hotels in Warstein and Meschede are both set in pleasant green surroundings. The WELCOME group exercises extreme care in the selection of hotel locations as only in this manner can it be ensured that the “WELCOME” brand name increases in value. Economic sustainability is imperative when selecting a setting. WELCOME has two hotels in Bamberg: the WELCOME Residenzschloss (4-star superior) and the WELCOME HOTEL Bamberg (3-star superior, opened in June 2004). The two hotels together offer 355 rooms and – in conjunction with the Konzert- und Kongresshalle Bamberg – over 6000 m2 of event space and 29 function rooms.
